🎓 How to Use This Final Grade Calculator

  1. 1.Enter your current grade. This is your grade from all coursework so far, before the final exam.
  2. 2.Enter your target grade. The grade you want to finish the course with.
  3. 3.Enter the final exam weight. Check your syllabus — common weights are 20, 25, 30 or 40 percent.
  4. 4.Read the result honestly. Over 100 percent means the target is out of reach even with a perfect score — adjust the target or raise your current grade first.
  5. 5.Plan your studying. A needed score of 92 percent calls for a different plan than a needed score of 65 percent.

❓ FAQ

How is the needed final exam score calculated?

Take your desired grade, subtract your current grade times the part of the grade that is not the final, then divide by the final exam weight. For example, with a current grade of 85 percent, a desired grade of 90 percent, and a 30 percent final, you need 101.67 percent on the final.

What if the needed score is over 100 percent?

Then the target grade is not reachable even with a perfect final exam score. The calculator says so plainly instead of hiding it. Your options are to aim for a slightly lower target grade, or to raise your current grade with remaining coursework before the final.

What if the needed score is below zero?

Then you have already secured your desired grade: even a zero on the final keeps you at or above the target. You can still take the final to protect your grade or to aim higher.
